MOGADISHU, Oct 28 (InsideSomalia.org)-- The interim parliament of Somalia Monday voted overwhelmingly to consider a motion of confidence vote on the government of Prime Minister Gedi after three days of deliberations amid growing difference between the Somali President and his Prime Minister.
Deputy Ibrahim Isak Yarow said the Somali parliament has voted in favour of a vote of confidence motion in the government with a big majority of the members of parliament.
"115 of the members of Parliament voted in favour of a motion of confidence in the current government while only 23 MPs who wanted the continuation of previous agenda of the parliament voted against", Yarow said.
"The vote today shows how MPs will be voting in the next parliament session on Wednesday because the Prime Minister will be required 139 votes for the survival of his government and I don't think he can ever get that number considering the vote today" Yarow said.
Five MPs abstained from the vote while 80 others were absent from the session of the parliament, which is now based in the southern Somali town of Baidoa, 245 KM northwest of the Somali capital Mogadishu.
The Somali parliament has been at odds over whether to consider the current disagreement between the Somali president and his Prime Minister or continue with the previous agendas of the parliament session.
Speaker Aden Madobe told MPs that the parliament will reconvene next Wednesday for the crucial vote of confidence on the government of Gedi.
The Somali President and his supporters accuse the Prime Minister of failing to establish the Federal system and help write constitution within the required two year mandate but the Prime minister says the deadline did not expire yet.
